Fraudulent activity can consist of misinforming the customer to induce them into purchasing service, taking cash payments or deposits and not posting them to customer's account or using personal information other than the customer's to obtain service or equipment. Bad debt is the amount of loss incurred by Sprint when fraud occurs. This includes the cost of the specific handset, shipping and handling charges, commissions or compensation paid to internal employees, and monthly service charges. Bad debt can range from $400 to $5000 depending on the severity of the fraudulent activity.
